Abstract
This biographical note traces the career of Chaïm Perelman (1912-1984), a philosopher of the Brussels School who fundamentally renewed legal methodology by replacing the analysis of judicial reasoning based on formal logic and the syllogism with a theory of argumentation and rhetoric. Perelman and his school developed a pragmatic approach to law, based on case studies and the comparative method, which conceives of law as a dynamic human construction, the product of social struggles and disagreements within pluralistic societies, in fundamental opposition to legal positivism.

Cette notice biographique retrace le parcours de Chaïm Perelman (1912-1984), philosophe de l'École de Bruxelles qui a fondamentalement renouvelé la méthodologie juridique en remplaçant l'analyse du raisonnement judiciaire basée sur la logique formelle et le syllogisme par une théorie de l'argumentation et de la rhétorique. Perelman et son école développent une approche pragmatique du droit, fondée sur l'étude de cas et la méthode comparative, qui conçoit le droit comme une construction humaine dynamique, produit des luttes sociales et des désaccords au sein des sociétés pluralistes, en opposition fondamentale au positivisme juridique.
