Abstract
This article presents Ronald Dworkin's theory of 'law as integrity' developed in Law's Empire, using the metaphor of the chain novel to explain judicial decision-making. Dworkin argues that judges neither mechanically apply laws nor arbitrarily create new rules, but rather cooperate in the construction of law through interpretive decisions that respect legal sources while promoting coherence and moral principles. Judicial interpretation thus combines knowledge and creation, and the right answer thesis addresses hard cases through the constraints imposed by sources and the judge's conception of the legal and political order.

Cet article présente la théorie de Ronald Dworkin du « droit-intégrité » (law as integrity) développée dans L'empire du droit, utilisant la métaphore du roman enchaîné pour expliquer la décision judiciaire. Dworkin soutient que les juges ne font ni n'appliquent mécaniquement les lois ni ne créent arbitrairement de nouvelles règles, mais coopèrent à la construction du droit par des décisions interprétatives qui respectent les sources juridiques tout en promouvant la cohérence et les principes moraux. L'interprétation judiciaire combine ainsi connaissance et création, et la théorie de la bonne réponse aborde les cas difficiles par les contraintes imposées par les sources et la conception que le juge se fait de l'ordre juridique et politique.
