Abstract
This preface traces the personal and intellectual journey of Benoit Frydman towards the discovery and systematic study of the Brussels School of Law, largely ignored during his training at the ULB but later recognized as fundamental for understanding contemporary law. Benoit Frydman explains how collaborative research with Gregory Lewkowicz revealed that Eugène Dupréel, not Chaïm Perelman, is the true founder of the School, which emerged from the profoundly transformative institutional reforms of the late nineteenth century at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Through seminars, international symposia, and student-led research projects, the authors examined the School's multiple contributions to legal philosophy and jurisprudence by adopting a pragmatic approach to the history of ideas, deliberately distinct from both the philological method and the conceptual approach of major intellectual currents.

Cette préface retrace le parcours personnel et intellectuel de Benoît Frydman vers la découverte et l'étude systématique de l'École de Bruxelles du droit, largement ignorée lors de sa formation à l'ULB mais reconnue ultérieurement comme fondamentale pour la compréhension du droit contemporain. Frydman explique comment la recherche collaborative avec Gregory Lewkowicz a révélé qu'Eugène Dupréel, non Chaïm Perelman, constitue le véritable fondateur de l'École, celle-ci émergeant des réformes institutionnelles profondément transformatrices de fin du XIXe siècle à l'Université libre de Bruxelles. Par le biais de séminaires, de colloques internationaux et de projets de recherche menés par les étudiants, les auteurs ont examiné les contributions multiples de l'École à la philosophie et à la jurisprudence du droit en adoptant une approche pragmatique de l'histoire des idées, délibérément distincte à la fois de la méthode philologique et de l'approche conceptuelle des grands courants.
