Abstract
This prologue, written by E. Cattin, Benoit Frydman, L. Jaffro, and A. Petit, examines how to read Leo Strauss by emphasizing that his commentaries on classical and modern works constitute a singular oeuvre that escapes the traditional category of the 'history of philosophy'. The authors emphasize Strauss's deliberate hermeneutic strategy, which integrates history into a carefully orchestrated methodology whose true end goes beyond a purely historical aim, in order to address the central question of the very possibility of philosophy in the city. Strauss meticulously reconstructs within the texts of the tradition the political conditions that make philosophy viable, notably examining the relationship between truth and history through the persistent conflict between the Ancients and the Moderns.

Petit, examine comment lire Leo Strauss en soulignant que ses commentaires des œuvres classiques et modernes constituent une œuvre singulière échappant à la catégorie traditionnelle d'« histoire de la philosophie ». Les auteurs mettent l'accent sur la stratégie herméneutique délibérée de Strauss, qui intègre l'histoire dans une méthodologie soigneusement orchestrée dont la fin véritable dépasse la visée purement historique, afin de traiter la question centrale de la possibilité même de la philosophie dans la cité.
